Cervical cancer is a malignant cancer of the cervix uteri or cervical area. It may present with vaginal bleeding but the symptoms may be absent untill the cancer is in it's advanced stages.
HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS or HPV is a virus that cause cervical related disease in women. There are 15-20 types of HPV that will cause cervical related disease in women. However, the 4 most common ones are type 6,11,16 and 18.
Prevention is better than cure
There's vaccine available now to protect the girls from getting cervical cancer. It is given in 3 doses over 6 months and each dose would normally cost around RM 400-500.
Pharmnotts is organizing a Cervical Cancer Awareness Day on 18/02 where vaccination at subsidized rate would be given to those who have registered. Now it would cost us only RM 230 for each dose. I'm going to be vaccinated as well =). How bout you??
